Fault-Tolerant Apify Ingestion, pgvector Indexing & HMAC Partner Metering
Bottleneck & Risk Diagnosis
High-velocity Apify scraper webhooks (250k+ daily) trigger concurrent database race conditions, resulting in duplicate ad records and table locking. Lacking an approximate nearest neighbor (ANN) vector index causes full-table sequential scans during semantic ad discovery, while unauthenticated partner API access risks unauthorized scrapers and unaccounted infrastructure costs.
Engineered Solution Overview
We deploy a tiered ingestion architecture with Redis BullMQ workers enforcing atomic SHA-256 idempotency locks before records reach PostgreSQL 16. Creative text and visual transcripts are embedded into pgvector using an HNSW index for sub-50ms similarity queries. All external partner requests are validated via cryptographic HMAC-SHA256 signatures and recorded directly into an immutable Stripe usage metering ledger.
Recommended Production Tech Stack
Selected for deterministic reliability, strict type safety, and low cloud overheadIdempotent Queue & DLQ Retries
Redis 7 key-value deduplication combined with BullMQ worker pools isolates scraper bursts and routes bad payloads to Dead-Letter Queues with one-click replay.
HNSW Semantic Ad Search
PostgreSQL 16 pgvector with hierarchical navigable small-world (HNSW) indexing allows performance marketers to query competitor creative angles across millions of ads in milliseconds.
Cryptographic Partner Gateway
HMAC-SHA256 request header signing with nonces and timestamp drift guards, married to automated Stripe metered billing usage logs for partner agency monetization.
